matyodesign
Introduction
Matyodesign is a social enterprise and an authentic Hungarian brand that supports local artisans. Each Matyodesign piece is unique, stands in contrast to fast fashion, and is truly handmade with care and love.
"My name is Rozi Váczi, founder of Matyodesign. I spent my childhood in the rural village of Tard, then later moved to Budapest. The contrast between rural and urban life inspired me to create Matyodesign. We brought forgotten patterns, the beautiful work of Matyó women, and a fading cultural heritage back to life — reimagined with a vibrant, modern rhythm.
Matyodesign programs offer participants the opportunity not only to discover but to personally experience Matyó culture. All of our experiences share a common foundation: presenting traditions, creating community connections, and inviting guests to actively engage with this living heritage. The programs are available in Tard, the home of Matyodesign, as well as at external locations, offering different depths and formats of experience.
The Matyodesign tour is a complex, multi-hour experience in Tard, where guests can immerse themselves in village life while discovering Matyó traditions. Participants meet local embroiderers, try embroidery themselves, take part in shared cooking and singing, and gain insight into the everyday life of the local community. The program also includes a traditional local lunch and visits to cultural sites such as a folk house or a church.
The Matyodesign attraction is a mobile, interactive program where the women of Tard “bring” Matyó culture directly to the audience. Participants can embroider together, learn how to make traditional pasta (csigatészta), sing folk songs, and even try on traditional costumes. This format is especially suitable for events, allowing guests to engage not just as spectators but as active participants.
The Matyodesign show is a stage performance presenting Matyó culture through visual and musical expression. During the performance, embroidering women dressed in authentic folk costumes sing traditional songs, while also showcasing the connection between heritage and contemporary design. The show is both a cultural experience and a social message, highlighting the importance of preserving traditions and supporting communities.
The “authentic village life” program is a multi-stop experience in Tard, where guests can explore Matyó traditions in a traditional rural house. The program includes trying embroidery, wearing traditional costumes, learning how to make csigatészta, and discovering Matyodesign products. This format offers a shorter yet comprehensive insight into village life and how traditional values appear in a contemporary context.
