Introduction

Budapest’s official organisation for tourism, culture and the marketing of both sectors, the BFTK helps to encourage a positive view of Budapest and promotes tourism and culture by positioning the capital of Hungary as a prominent cultural and tourist destination and by developing valuable cultural content.

Responsibilities of the Budapest Festival and Tourism Center:


To represent and communicate Budapest as a tourist and cultural brand

to drive the development of attractions and products,
to influence, maintain and coordinate the supply side of tourism;
to coordinate the marketing of tourism products;
to provide support in getting service offers out on the market.

To create valuable cultural content which also has an impact on tourism by organising festivals and quality cultural events:

BFTK is the organisation which provides the official and strategic management of Budapest as a destination, and as such, it
coordinates the Budapest Tourism Round Table. With this activity, it reconciles the interests of various decision makers: the government, the city and the districts, as well as the managers of major projects and professional representatives of the tourist trade. In addition, it also maintains strategic partnerships with national tourism policymakers, with the national marketing organisation and with professional bodies.

Provides comprehensive information to tourists, professional partners and the media on topics connected with tourism in Budapest and cultural life Maintains and develops a coordinated tourist information system made up of the Budapestinfo Pont network – in Budapest and its surroundings.

Operation of the Budapestinfo information portfolio – providing information to tourists, city residents, professional partners and the media through online and offline communication channels.

The Budapest Card, managed by BFTK, is the official tourist city card of Budapest
and is a marketing and business policy tool for BFTK.
As a key to the city, the free and discounted services provided by the Budapest Card makes itself felt directly by the tourist’s wallet.
In addition to the usual products for 24, 48 and 72 hours, unique, customised, branded city cards for MICE events, conferences, events and campaigns can also be requested.

Aim of distributing the Budapest Card:
to provide an accredited package of attractions, sights and services which allow visitors to get to know Budapest, and to highlight tourism services that, through their quality and high standards, encourage visitors to gain a more positive opinion of the city.

Practical Guide of Budapest CARD

BUDAPEST CARD,
the practical travel companion
The Budapest Card is an official city card that allows card holders to benefit from certain
public transportation or tourism services free of charge or at a significant discount. The
purpose of issuing the card is to increase the city’s revenue spent on Budapest’s tourism
marketing and to highlight tourism services that, through their quality and high standards,
help visitors to gain a more positive opinion of the city. Additionally, our goal with the
Budapest Card is to provide visitors with a certain range of experiences through which they
can get acquainted with Budapest, with its hidden treasures and lively cultural scene, so
they take lasting memories with them when they return home from the holidays.
The main information on the Budapest Card for the year 2018/2019 (gross prices in EUR are
indicate in parentheses):

1. TYPES AND PRICE:
24-hour Budapest Card: 5,500 HUF (21.99 EUR)
48-hour Budapest Card: 8,500 HUF (32.99 EUR)
72-hour Budapest Card: 10,900 HUF (42.99 EUR)
96-hour Budapest Card: 14,500 HUF (52.99 EUR)
120-hour Budapest Card: 17,500 HUF (62.99 EUR)
72-hour Junior Budapest Card: 8,900 HUF (32.99 EUR)

The Budapest Festival and Tourism Centre (BFTK), responsible for issuing the card, reserves the right to change these prices!

2. VALIDITY:
The Budapest Card is valid for a single natural person. The new Budapest Card is launched on
1 April 2018 and can be sold to third parties until 31 March 2019. The validity of the card is
indicated on the date field (to be completed by the user) on the back of the card, and by way
of the card’s NFC chip, which is activated when the card is first used and shall remain active for
the subsequent 24, 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours.

3. USAGE:
The Budapest Card is valid from its starting date, which is to be indicated on the back of the
card. The card is to be presented at the request of ticket inspectors on public transport vehicles
or to the driver upon commencing a trip.

4. FORMAT:
A credit card-size plastic card, with a design by BFTK Nonprofit Kft., featuring the tourist’s
signature on the back, as well as the first and last day of validity (filled in by the holder), price
and serial number of the card. The back side of the card also features a QR code, web address
and telephone number for information purposes.

5. SUPPLEMENTARY PUBLICATIONS:
The Budapest Guide publication, which also functions as a Budapest Card catalog, presents
the use of the card and all service providers (photos, addresses, contact details, opening hours,
discounts). The Budapest Guide and Budapest Card catalog is published in over one hundred thousand copies, in 8 languages.

SERVICES PROVIDED UPON PURCHASING THE BUDAPEST CARD:

  • a total of 29 free tourism services and over 70 cultural, dining and miscellaneous offers available at a discount;
  • free use of BKK public transport service vehicles (bus, metro, tram, trolleybus, Millennium Underground Railway, HÉV commuter railway, Cogwheel Railway, BKK boat services) within the administrative boundaries of Budapest or, in the case of bus 200E, to terminal 2A and 2B of the Liszt Ferenc International Airport;
  • free, English-language Cityrama walking sightseeing tours (individually on the Buda and Pest sides) – tours are launched every day at 2 pm in Buda and 10 am in Pest, both with a duration of 2-2.5 hours;
  • free admission to Lukács Bath within the period of validity on a single occasion – one ticket with locker usage;
  • free use of the official Budapest Castle Bus;
  • free admission to the permanent exhibitions of the following museums within the period of validity: Aquincum Museum and Archeological Park, Béla Bartók Memorial House, Budapest History Museum, Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asian Arts, Kiscelli Museum, Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Arts, House of Hungarian Photographers in Mai Manó House, Hungarian Museum of Trade and Tourism, Hungarian National Gallery, Hungarian National Museum,
    Memento Park - Statue Park, Kunsthalle, Customs and Tax History Museum, Robert Capa Contemporary Photography Center, Museum of Fine Arts (subsequent to its renovation), New Budapest Gallery, Vasarely Museum;
